The Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, or Warthog, is a single-seat, twin-turbofan attack aircraft built for close air support. Developed in response to the Cold War threat, it first flew in 1972, with production running from 1975 to 1984, resulting in 715 units.
Built to counter enemy armour, the A-10 features a reinforced cockpit and damage-resistant airframe, offering exceptional durability and manoeuvrability with a turning radius of 300 metres at 275 km/h. Armed with the powerful 30mm GAU-8/A Avenger rotary cannon and capable of carrying up to 7,300 kg of munitions, it delivers devastating firepower against heavily armoured targets.
The A-10 showcased its combat efficiency during Operation Desert Storm, where it destroyed enemy tanks and supported ground forces. With its tough design and destructive firepower, the A-10 is still one of the most fearsome ground-attack aircraft ever produced.
