The Toyota MR2 is a three-generation line of two-seat, mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports vehicles produced in Japan and sold worldwide by Toyota from 1984 to 2007. It was produced in three generations: W10 (1984–1989), W20 (1990–1999), and W30 (2000–2007). It's the first rear-mid-engined production automobile in Japan. The MR2 was a tiny, economical, and athletic automobile with simple design elements such as completely independent MacPherson strut front and rear suspensions, four-wheel disc brakes, and transversely-mounted transverse-mounted inline-four engine. MR2 stands for "mid-ship runabout 2-seater" or "mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-seater." Because the abbreviation "MR2" sounds like the obscenity "Merde" when spoken in French, the vehicle was renamed Toyota MR in French-speaking markets.
